Further details

Bagni di Lucca itself has many open air dining and music events throughout the summer. Most of the hill villages of the region often have fiesta's from medieval festivals with flag throwing demonstrations to local Tuscan food festivals, there's always something fun going on. As the name suggest Bagni di Lucca is a thermal town where you can treat yourself at one of the thermal spa's.

There are some stunning walks to explore be they short circuits round the thermal baths area and along mule tracks leading to the hill villages overlooking beautiful Bagni di Lucca. Or for the more adventurous climb up to the top of Prato Fiorito and take in the stunning views plus the Garfagnana area of natural beauty is easily reached too - maps and guided walks available from the local tourist information office (just a short walk from the villa).

Our local city of Lucca (just 20 minutes by car) with its stunning city walls has something for everyone. Opera and contemporary music festivals take place throughout the summer months. A shoppers paradise with designer shops on via Filunga and arty jewellery shops down little sides streets. There's a huge open air antiques market (3rd weekend of the month) where you can find anything from stunning architectural sculpture to lace and jewellery. Or you could hire bicycles and cycle around the top of the medieval walls. Take a walk to the top of one of the towers and get stunning views of the red roof tops, then stroll to the piazza anfiteatro and sit at one of the cafes and soak up the fabulous atmosphere.

Maybe drive the strada del vino, to sample some locally produced wine from the Monte Carlo region, on your way home. Famous cultural centres of Florence, Pisa, and Siena are all day trips you could take. You can reach them directly via public transport from the Villa or alternatively drive.

There is so much to see and do - you'll struggle to fit it all into a week.
